Safety Investigation Officer
Job overview
Ensure the safety of aviation operations by joining the investigation conducted by National Safety Investigation Authorities and following-up the safety recommendations, facilitating their implementation.
General Accountabilities
- Assess critically the information arising from safety investigations and distribute timely to the relevant technical functions within the Agency to enable decisions on safety actions;
- Provide inputs in the conduct of safety investigations, by delivering expert advice as Technical Adviser of the Investigator-In-Charge or of the Accredited Representative of the Safety Investigation Authority of the respective EASA Member State;
- Coordinate the regular follow-up of safety recommendations in the direct area of responsibility, and provide inputs to the release of the Annual Safety Recommendations Review;
- Review the completeness and correctness of draft investigation reports submitted to the Agency, and provide inputs after coordination with the relevant technical units within the Agency;
- Deliver expert advice on safety investigation matters to the Safety Boards and Collaborative Analysis Groups (CAGs) by direct participation to their meetings.
Specific Accountabilities
- To be appointed as EASA Technical Advisor on investigations led by EU SIAs, and where EU SIAs have appointed Accredited Representatives.
- To represent EASA to the safety investigation workshops/meetings at worldwide level (i.e. ENCASIA/ECAC-ACC/ISASI/ESASI).
- To manage and follow up the safety recommendations assigned.
- To coordinate the activities related to the draft reports received by the SIAs for comments.
- To coordinate projects assigned to the section in the frame of the safety investigations and safety recommendations relates activities.

Eligibility
To be admitted to the selection process you must meet the following criteria:
- Have a thorough knowledge of English (at least level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and a satisfactory knowledge of another official language of the European Union (at least level B2) [1],
- Be a national of a Member State of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or Switzerland
- A level of education which corresponds to completed university studies attested by a diploma with a normal period of university studies of at least 3 years, followed by at least 3 years professional experience in scope of the role OR where justified in the interest of the service, at least 3 years professional training leading to the issuance of a helicopter or aeroplane pilot license (CPL, ATPL or Military Pilot License) AND, after having completed the professional training, at least 6 years professional experience in scope of the role. - Proven professional experience in conducting aviation safety investigations (including within Aircraft Manufacturers/Design Organizations and/or Aircraft Operators)
- Applied knowledge of ICAO Annex 13 Standards and Recommended practices.
* This vacancy is open as well to Temporary Agents (2f) employed at EASA, in the grade bracket AD5- AD9.
[1] Mother tongue English speakers will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of a second EU language. English oral and written skills will be assessed throughout the assessment phase.
Conditions of Employment
Contract: 5 years contract as Temporary Agent with possibility of extension (for an indefinite period)
Working hours: 40 hrs per week (on a full-time working pattern)
Salary: Basic salary AD 6 (step 1: 6231.42 EUR - step 2: 6493.29 EUR) Depending on proven years of work experience. Additional allowances depending on personal situation.
Location: Cologne, Germany. On-site post with flexible working arrangements. Relocation is required.
